Halliday says that he will show that Jacobus attended that meeting, and that he was offered, and did in fact accept, bribes totalling millions of credits. The evidence, says Halliday, is conclusive: emails, messages, DNA, testimony from individuals close to Mr Jacobus. He is a tall, svelte man, his figure not fitting into the stereotype of a bodyguard but nonetheless giving the impression of a stringy muscularity. Groves confirms that he worked for Jacobus as a personal bodyguard for 10 years, from his beginnings as a freshman Senator all the way through to his current position as leader of the Edyn Senate.](click: "Edyn Senate.")[
He was let go from his position 3 months ago, officially due to a reshuffle. However, Groves believes Jacobus had developed a personal vendetta against him after he confessed he did not vote for Jacobus' separatist party in recent elections.](click: "in recent elections.")[
You try to gauge whether he fits the bill as a "disgruntled ex-employee", but he is hard to read and is responding to the questions calmly and without any apparent anger.](click: "apparent anger.")[
Halliday asks Groves if he was with the accused on the date of the alleged meeting with SolCor, and he confirms that he was. Groves states that the meeting did take place as alleged, that he attended the entirety of it in his capacity as Jacobus' bodyguard, and that he is well placed to [[confirm what was discussed.]]

Groves' story could hardly be juicier if he tried, and perfectly fits the narrative that the prosecution is advancing: Graeme Forster (CEO of SolCor) offered to pay 7.5 million credits to Jacobus personally, in exchange for granting a number of new fossil fuel licenses to SolCor;(click: "licenses to SolCor")[
Jacobus would also amend his party's official policy, which stated that no new licenses would be granted for as long as they were in power; after seeking further details on the logistics of payment, Jacobus agreed to the deal in its entirety, and provided Forster with the account number and sort code of an account into which the payment could be made; payment was made instantly, and Jacobus expressed delight to Groves as they left the meeting that it had gone so smoothly.](click: "so smoothly")[
