Dear reader Thank you for considering this IntroComp submission of NEUROCRACY, a piece of hypertext fiction that plays out on a website. If you wish to experience the submitted excerpt of NEUROCRACY without any introduction, please go to this (temporary) URL: ________________________________________________ https://omnipedia.dreamhosters.com/ ________________________________________________ If you'd prefer to learn more about NEUROCRACY first, or the website makes no sense at a glance, here follows a quick primer about the project and what the IntroComp excerpt contains. NEUROCRACY depicts a near-future sci-fi world set in the year 2049, using the medium of a web-based encyclopedia that exists within that world. This encylopedia is known as Omnipedia and closely resembles present-day Wikipedia in style and layout. As such, NEUROCRACY does not tell a linear story, but allows you to piece together what has happened, and what is happening, entirely from the articles available on Omnipedia. You essentially derive a story from the worldbuilding rather than the other way around. When opening the NEUROCRACY excerpt, you may note that Omnipedia is set to September 29th 2049 at the top of the site and in the "Revision history" tab visible in the righthand column. The excerpt contains a total of eight hyperlinked articles spread across three consecutive days. September 29th opens with three available articles, with September 30th adding three more and October 1st adding two. The full version of NEUROCRACY will feature a story told through dozens of articles spanning one week in 2049. You are free to switch back and forth between the three available days using the "Revision history" tab, though the idea is that these days are released sequentially in an episodic structure. As additional days and their corresponding articles gradually become available, more information comes to light, providing clues as to which articles provide other clues and/or could be seen in a new light. To get the intended experience, only move on to the next day's articles once you have exhausted all those of the current day. You may start NEUROCRACY with either the daily featured article or by clicking the "Random article" link in the lefthand column. Please note that this excerpt represents a work-in-progress slice of NEUROCRACY. Everything is subject to change as NEUROCRACY is developed further. I hope you enjoy it!
